Becoming a Spot Owner: Step-by-Step Guide for Noobs

We get it. You've seen the cool, shiny spots, and now you want one. Follow along to learn how you can claim or purchase one for yourself in 3 easy steps.
Step 1 -- Create an account
Click here to create an account, or click the button on the top right that says 'sign up'.
Step 2 -- Complete your pending requirements
Once you sign up, you'll be taken to your My Spot page, where you'll see two pending requirements and a recommended action. You'll need to complete the two requirements before you're eligible to purchase a spot. Let's walk through each of these one by one.
Requirement 1 -- Designate your username
Your username is a publicly visible identifier. If you choose to purchase or claim a spot, it will show up both on your spot, as well as on the Ledger. Go to your Settings page to designate your username. Keep in mind it must be between 3 and 21 characters in length and cannot contain any spaces.
Note -- Usernames cannot be changed once they are selected. Choose wisely!
Requirement 2 -- Create a preset
A preset is a pre-made configuration that can then be applied to a spot. It consists of the image that is displayed in the spot, the associated URL, and a text description. Navigate to your Presets page and click the 'New Preset' button on the top right to create a preset.
Recommended Action -- Setup payments
We use Stripe to enable seamless transactions between users. You're not required to complete this step to claim or purchase a spot -- but if you do claim one and then sell it later, you'll have 28 days to connect a bank account and receive your payout. On the third card on your My Spot page, click on the link that says 'Begin onboarding.' This will prompt you to enter your country of residence, and then redirect you to a Stripe-hosted form that will collect the following information:
Legal full name
Phone number
Account type (Individual or Entity)
Other details, depending on your region
This data will be handled directly by Stripe, and will not touch our servers. You can access Stripe's privacy policy here.
The form will then prompt you to connect a bank account through either oAuth or manual input, depending on your institution of choice.
Once you finish connecting your bank account, you'll be automatically redirected back to your My Spot page. If you are unable to finish onboarding in one sitting for any reason, you can always go back to your My Spot page and click the 'Continue onboarding' link to pick up where you left off. The 'Continue onboarding' link will replace the 'Begin onboarding' link only once you've started a valid onboarding session.
Note -- the financial information you provide here will NOT be used to charge you. It will be used only for sending you payouts in the event your spot is bought by another user.
Step 3 -- Claim or purchase a spot
Once you've completed all your pending requirements, your My Spot page will no longer display requirement cards, but rather a list showing all 77 spots, their respective prices, and a checkout button for each of them. Clicking the checkout button for any given spot will take you to a checkout page, where you'll be prompted to fill out two fields:
Field 1 -- Applied preset
This dropdown field will allow you to select one of your presets. The preset you select here will be applied to the spot as soon as your purchase is complete. You may change the applied preset later at any point during the length of your ownership.
Field 2 -- Asking price
This field will allow you to enter a dollar amount between $0.77 and $777,777.77 USD (inclusive). This will be the new asking price of the spot, which will go into effect as soon as your purchase is complete. Upon entering a value, you'll be able to see your estimated net earnings after processing fees. You may also change the asking price at a later time.
Note -- For larger payout volumes (>$9,999.99), you may have to meet certain Stripe KYC requirements before you can receive your payout. You'll be notified of this if it occurs.
Once you've filled out these fields, you'll see your order summary, which will show your purchase total at the bottom. If your total is $0.00 USD (meaning the spot is currently vacant), you can simply click the button that says 'Claim now' to claim the spot. If your total is a non-zero amount, then you'll be prompted to enter in a valid payment method. Afterwards, you may click the 'Purchase now' button to confirm the transaction.
After you claim or purchase a spot, you'll be redirected to your My Spot page, which will now show you an ownership card, as well as fields for configuring the applied preset and asking price.
Congratulations! You are now a spot owner.
